In honor of my boys who were dying to know how I'd get here ... our plane (which was white, blue and yellow, Auggie - not green!), or train and our taxi that all got us to Edinburgh unbelievably safely early this morning!
Logan was experiencing delays due to bad weather here and at our connecting point, Newark. When we checked in a hostess told us she was putting us on an earlier flight that had been delayed so that we wouldn't miss our flight. It worked out beautifully - we arrived at the terminal for our Glasgow flight right as they called the rear of the plane to board.
We were the last row of seats - so we settled in and eventually our third seat was filled. There was a huge debacle over two seats which had been over sold - turns out they were the seats we'd originally had before Dave changed us to sit together. It was pretty entertaining to watch.
The flight was uneventful. We had a 8-week-old baby in front of us but considering everything she was very good. They served us dinner - chicken and rice for me, beef and potatoes for Dave - shortly after take off and pretty much after that I slept. They have screens on the back of the seat in front of you - you can watch TV, movies and listen to music. You can also check out this cool map of where your flight is in real time - my pics are blurry but you can get the idea:
All in all, a 7+ hour flight seemed not so bad at all. We even got warm croissants and fruit salad this morning for a small breakfast. I think this was the part of the trip I was most concerned about (for no rational reason) and it went really well.
The gentleman who sat next to me was the perfect travel "partner" too - and I don't mean Dave, though he was fine! He was chatty at take off and landing but quiet other than that. I wish I could remember where he said he was from but we flew right over it so he was pointing out landmarks to us as we passed over. Here are some of our plane pictures!
We got off the plane and went through customs in a matter of minutes (once we got in the right line!) - when we walked out our luggage was just coming out. Perfect timing! We grabbed our things and headed out to the bus which was more simpler than we were expecting. That took us to the train station where we hopped on in Glasgow's Queen Station. A mere hour later we were catching a cab in Edinbugh and rushing off to our hotel. It really couldn't have been simpler.
Except it WAS. We weren't supposed to check in until 2 but it was 10:30am and we had all our luggage. I was just hoping to store the luggage some where but they had our room ready! So we settled in and took a nice long nap, and then showers before hitting the town! It felt good to get out of the clothes I'd been wearing for 24 or more hours! I'll do another post with our adventures from tonight :)
